Ardennes Forests
In southern Belgium, the wild boar is a symbolic icon in the Ardennes forests, as we previously examined in Celtic mythology. The premier Belgian infantry regiment Chasseurs Ardennais also has a wild boar as their mascot 1. The soldiers of this elite infantry wear a boar’s head pin on their beret. This symbolizes their bravery and warrior spirit 2.
